In season now: autumn
October on the parade is English apple season. Cox for sharpness, Gala for sweetness, Bramleys for the crumble. Strawberries are still coming through and still tasting of summer, the cauliflowers have gone purple and yellow, and the roasting veg is in for Sunday.

English Cox apples
Sharp, crisp and full of flavour. The eating apple of the season.

English Gala apples
Crisp, juicy and super sweet. Probably our best seller.

Bramley cooking apples
Apple pie or apple crumble? These will do the job.

Why people cross Ealing for a bag of apples
Supermarket fruit is picked to travel and sold to look right. Ours is bought at the wholesale market that morning to be eaten this week, which is why it smells of what it is. The display is set out by hand every day, the prices are written on cards, and the people serving you have been doing it for decades and will tell you what is good.
